Article Title

The title of this page seems a bit wrong. Maybe De-spawn or De-spawning would be better? ed: I didn't see the section on the naming. I guess it's OK as is then. – Haarg 22:09, 23 March 2008 (EDT)

I now realize I never mentioned it in the article, but if you check the derez texture with UT2004's UnrealEd, you should find it has "derez" in the name. (Maybe it's UT2003; it's been years since I found out, but I doubt it was renamed for UT2004 anyway.) That makes it as official a name as you can get for the Unreal series, since it is never actually referred to, let alone named in the game stories themselves. We should probably look up the specifics and add that to the Etymology section. I don't currently have UT2003/4 installed on this computer myself though... Retodon8 22:28, 23 March 2008 (EDT)

Throughout the code the spelling "deres" is much more common than "derez". In fact, "deres" is used for both xPawn (players) and translocator beacons, while "derez" only some times pops up in some parts of the xPawn code, mostly to reference materials from the DeRez package. Thanks for that info. Does that mean we should move the article to "Deressing", or maybe just "Deres"...? Retodon8 10:40, 24 March 2008 (EDT)
I don't know. Since it seems to come from "deresolution" the words "deres(sing)" or maybe "deresolving" (is that a proper word?) seem to make more sense. Wormbo 11:09, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
I think this might be one of those silly variants that happen among slightly different dialects of English, and nothing more - something hardly worth renaming the articles over. Resolution might be the correct spelling for that word, but Tron created the term "Derez" and I think as such it should probably stay - "Deres" is probably the result of that wacky Canadian/British English. :) --Dark Pulse 02:42, 26 March 2008 (EDT)

Weapon derezzing?

I believe Unreal Tournament weapons never spin and shrink, they just disappear. At least of the GOTY version. And UT2K4 weapons also glow (like if it was sucked into a warp or something) when shrinking. --GreatEmerald 05:15, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

I updated the UT section with how it really works. In UT200x code pickup deres is called "fade-out" and indeed adds a spiffy emitter effect for weapons. As far as I can tell, that's only a visual difference for UT2003. Wormbo 11:09, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
