Unreal 2: The Awakening is supposedly a sequel to Unreal. While the events in Unreal 2 are unrelated to the first game, it does have many nods to Unreal as well as bringing back the Skaarj. The game was released to stores on February 4, 2003.

An expansion for Unreal 2 was released later on in 2003 that re-introduced Expanded Multi-Player to Unreal 2. Lovingly referred to as XMP.
