The Necris are an artificial race of undead humans created by the Phayder Corporation. They appear like white-skinned humans with many black, angular tattoos.

The Phayder Corporation creates Necris by substituting dead humans' blood with Nanoblack, a black fluid of nanobots. These humans then return as the undead, sometimes retaining the memories of their previous lives. The Necris process is insanely costly, at least for outsiders, and only the Liandri Mining Corporation is known to have been able to pay the Necris to bring back dead individuals.

The Necris have fought in the Grand Liandri Tournament multiple times.

, namely: Unreal Tournament, Unreal Championship 2, and Unreal Tournament 2004 (through a bonus pack). In Unreal Tournament 3 they do not compete, but attack the humans and start a war. In the original UT they did not yet feature the tattoos they have in UC2 and UT2004, and in UT3 they are seemingly augmented with cybernetic prosthetics.

Technology

Necris have coated their mêlée weapons in Nanoblack, making them deadlier to living creatures. They can also use Nanoblack missiles to allow them to suck the energy out of targeted enemies like a vampire.

During UT3 the Necris attack with foot soldiers as well as unorthodox vehicles which may feature tentacles and other alien propulsion methods. These vehicles include the Viper, Nemesis, Darkwalker, Fury, Scavenger, and Nightshade. The Necris have also upgraded the Axon Scorpion with a cloaking device and Spider Mine-laying abilities into a vehicle called the Stealthbender.

The Liandri Mining Corporation tried to reproduce the Necris process. This resulted in the Nightmare team. The Liandri abandoned the project and resorted to paying the Necris insane amounts of money to bring back the public's favorite Tournament contestants, such as Lauren, Brock, and Selket.
